Aftercare
Looking after your new tattoo
Healing is the half of it we can't do for you. Follow this for two to three weeks and your tattoo will settle the way it's meant to.
Small to medium
If your tattoo is palm-sized to hand-sized
Five steps. The only one people skip is the third, and it's the one that matters most.
Take the wrap off after 2 hours
Remove the cling wrap once you've been home a couple of hours.
Wash it properly
Warm, slightly soapy water. Get all the excess ink and plasma off, dab dry, then let it air out.
No cream for the first two nights
Leave it completely alone. This is the step people get wrong.
Clean it again the next morning
Same as step two.
Then cream every night for two weeks
Supreme Creme, before bed. Clean fingers every single time.
Large pieces
If your tattoo is a sleeve or a big panel
Slightly different. The wrap stays on longer.
Leave the wrap on overnight
Unlike a smaller piece, a large one stays wrapped until morning.
Clean it well the next morning
All the excess ink and plasma off, dab dry, let it air out.
Cream every night for two weeks
Supreme Creme before bed, with clean fingers.
For two to three weeks
Four things to keep away from it
None of this is fussiness. Each one is a way we've seen a good tattoo go wrong. Two or three weeks of care and you've got it for life.
Water
Short showers only. No pools, no baths, no dirty dish water.
Beauty products
No fake tan, no moisturiser, no scrubs, no shaving over it.
Pets
Don't let them touch or lick it. That's the fastest route to an infection. Keep it off pet blankets too.
Picking and scratching
Don't. It pulls the ink out, it scars, and it can start an infection. However much it itches.
One last thing
Always use clean fingers
Every time you put cream on it. It sounds obvious and it's the most common way a healing tattoo gets infected.
If it looks angry, feels hot, or you're just not sure, ring us on (08) 6162 1201 or come in. We would much rather look at it than have you worry.
